What a terribly sad story.
Our thoughts are with the family - no doubt the fact that the 111 call handler has admitted he was wrong to cancel the ambulance will be of little consolation.
An NHS 111 nurse cancelled an ambulance when it was just one minute from the home of a dying woman, an inquest heard. Ann Walters, 61, was found dead by her son ten hours after she had called the emergency services. Peter Richardson, a clinical support desk practitioner for the 111 service and a triage nurse with South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), admitted at her inquest that he had made the wrong decision and apologised to her family. He said he did it as she said she wanted to be seen by a GP, not an ambulance.
